Ceilings Drab to Fab

I recently decided to change it up with two ceilings in our house. Plain white was just boring me. So in the dining room, I opted for a "faux" finish and in the bedroom, I decided on a new color scheme.

The dining room was hard. I knew I wanted a mix of a lot of colors, and I wanted metallics. I looked at hundreds of photos online, and decided that I liked the look of venetian plaster, but did not want to have the glass-like appearance on the ceiling. My decorative painter did a sample board for me, and I was blown away. She knew exactly what I was looking for and set to work. Days later, I had a "masterpiece" work of art on my dining room ceiling.

In the bedroom, I knew I wanted a subdued, mellow hue for the walls and a complementary color for the ceiling. We have white crown moulding in there and I thought darker colors would help highlight the trim. I went to Benjamin Moore at Harbour Pointe and picked my colors. The paint swatches are as big as poster boards, so you can take them home and really get a feel for the color. I went with Montpelier Blue and Coastal Path Tan...I think the colors turned out to be pretty cool.

We would love to hear from some of you about other ways to add color to ceilings... please share your fabulous ideas!!!

My decorative painter for the dining room was Melanie Palma, http://www.melaniepalmadesigns.com/,
and I highly recommend her!!!
